How do I choose the right uniform for my business? What should I consider?

At Davis Doherty we are often asked to help our customers design their uniform from ʻscratchʼ. The customer knows the overall ʻlookʼ they want to achieve but not how to go about choosing the appropriate garments.  Some customers require several different uniforms for the various staff within their business - overalls for warehouse staff, for example, and suits or formal business wear for the sales representatives.    With careful planning and garment selection your company image can be maintained throughout, particularly by choosing complementary colours and applying an embroidered or printed logo to the garments.  Following are a few points you might like to consider when choosing garments which are right for you and your business.

Davis Doherty is all about friendly, personal service - we love what we do, and we'd love to talk to you about how we can help you.

  • Have you had a logo or emblem designed which you would like to have embroidered or printed on your garments? A logo is an excellent way to turn what may be an ordinary looking garment into something special and unique to your business. The colour(s) you choose for your logo may well play an important part in helping you decide on what colour garments you would like you or your staff to wear. A popular garment choice, for example, is a polo shirt which nowadays is available in a wide range of colours and fabrics. Apply a logo in complementary colours and the garment immediately looks like a well designed uniform. Simple!

  • Think carefully about what environment your uniform is to be worn in. It may be stating the obvious but do consider how much ʻwear and tearʼ the garments will be subjected to. Someone working on a building site, for example, is going to require far more robust garments than an IT consultant! At DavisDoherty we have a comprehensive range of garments in many different fabrics to suit the needs of most industries. Please just ask, we are very happy to help.

    Choosing a Uniform

  • Does your uniform need to be suitable for both men and women?  Many of our corporate garments (tees, polo shirts, shirts, blouses, jackets) are now available in menʼs and ladiesʼ cuts. A ladyʼs polo shirt, for example, has narrower, shorter sleeves and the body of the garment is shaped so that it is more feminine in appearance. You can rest assured any ladies on your staff will be delighted to be offered such a garment rather than having to wear the same as the guys!

  • Donʼt forget to consider the climate. Our South Island customers in particular are well aware of the need to have dependable, warm and showerproof or even completely waterproof garments to withstand the rigours of the New Zealand winter.

    Workwear

  • If you are in an office based environment, have you considered our excellent business suiting range for your staff? Menʼs and ladiesʼ,in a choice of fabrics and colours (black, charcoal or navy), plain or pinstripe? You will be amazed at the difference it will make to how your staff are perceived by your customers. Professional is as professional does! DavisDoherty has an excellent range of business shirts and blouses, knitwear and shoes to complete the range.

  • Of course, some of our customers are in industries with very specific uniform requirements. Check out our chef and hospitality range. Take a look at our new beauty therapy tunics and medical scrubs. If itʼs Hi-Viz jackets and steel soled work boots you require, then look no further. DavisDoherty has it all!
